definitely a lot to absorb in this one. Many "fishy" stuff 😄🫰🤙

Many thanks for the link to Notes on Managing ADHD! I very much need to get my ADHD in better order. I bought a book on adult ADHD after the author was on a podcast I listen to, and then once the book was delivered, I left the package in my porch for weeks... I find Fernando's writing very relatable. (I also strongly agree with his thoughts on medication + external scaffolding.)

I'm glad it seems helpful to you! I really enjoyed his thought process.

After a lifetime of depression, I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50.

But medication has had no impact for me.

Now, having spent my whole life feeling like I was failing at life, I discovered there was brand new ways I could fail.

So, that article seems particularly painful.

I'm truly sorry that you've not found tools that work for you with the condition. I'd gently suggest that you you aren't failing at anything, you've got a wiring difference in your brain that makes the way you process tasks and information different. It doesn't sound like it resonated, but for me it was validating to understand that it was a fundamental difference in my brain, not a lack of effort, that made things harder. Wishing you all the best in finding resources that support you.

Jodi, I love your open and inquiring mind. Such an effective tool for healing, maybe not from some physical illnesses but definitely for healing the spirit and heart, ❤️

Interesting comment from Kristian, I was diagnosed with lupus over 50 years ago and grateful for medical support that has got me here today. Recently my GP questioned if I might have ADHD, which set me off researching it, and to econsider how much my student and academic work struggles may not have only been due to the lupus. I also believe my childhood experiences with illness and growing up in households with alcohol affected adults also affected my mental and emotional capacities. I have learned there is much opportunity to recover from that, too, not so much with medical help as loving and open communication that teaches us humility and how to care. You obviously have those characteristics in spades! 💚🤍💜

Thank you, that’s very kind. I am in a similar boat, though in my late 40s — many in my family have ADHD and I never thought to read or do quizzes etc, until a medical professional suggested the same very recently. It was an eye opener as I’d previously assumed characteristics were the same for men and women, and what do you know that’s not the case. It’s felt very validating that areas I struggled with were ones that go in that bucket. I guess there’s always more to learn and uncover in ourselves.

Gentle hugs to you, and all the best to you on your continuing journey
